Weekly Agenda 8.29-9.2

MONDAY
Review Joyce's "Araby:" connections to the Bible, especially to "The Fall" (Genesis 3).
Begin Reading “Chapter 14,” including the list of Christ-Like traits
-brainstorm literary and popular examples of Christ-Like characters
HW Read Chapter 14: "Yes, She's a ..." and annotate for connections to books you've read and helpful ideas.

TUESDAY
Read Cain and Abel: Is God justified in his punishment of Cain?
Discuss the “Role of Woman in the Old Testament”
-Duhrer “The Four Witches”
Review Chapter 14
Identify and discuss universal archetypes in the Bible.  Do these archetypes exist in more modern, popular mediums?
-archetypal criminal
-archetypal mother, wife, babe in arms
-Duhrer “Adam and Eve”
-Duhrer “The Lamentation of Christ”

Consider the New Testament, what imagery is associated with Christ?  Consider artist renderings, how are they similar? Different?
-share, use language from your unit to describe what you see.
HW Add to Journal #1: a thorough paragraph enumerating connections between the Bible and Candide.

ESSAY due September 15th, in hand. : Either work from your Memory Essay, or start anew, or turn in a work in progress from the summer.  Respond to one prompt, include prompt at the top of essay.  Formatting is important, MLA only!  Turn in hard copy for comments and credit.
